The series Citylights explores the growing spatial compression between humans and animals in urban environments. As natural habitats vanish due to the climate crisis, birds and other wildlife are increasingly pushed into cities—places that offer them little space or safety.
Modern urban landscapes are far removed from nature: sealed surfaces, artificial lighting, reflective glass. For birds, cities become deadly. Each year, millions of birds die after colliding with windows, misled by reflections and light.
But this loss affects humans as well: we are left with fewer direct encounters with nature, with birdsong, with open space. Citylights speaks of a closeness that is not chosen—and of cities that may glow, but grow increasingly silent.
